Night Sky by Michael Matti

When we come into the presence of Almighty God, our hearts should be overwhelmed with a sense of wonder and awe and amazement. This is the God who spoke the universe into existence, who parted the Red Sea, who made water burst forth from a rock, who turned sticks into snakes, spoke from a burning bush, raised a man from the dead, made the sun stand still, and sits on heaven’s throne. This awesome, almighty, unfathomable God knew you even before you were formed in your mother’s womb, knows how many hairs are growing on your head at this very moment, and loves you so much that he sacrificed his own son to pay the price for your sins, because he wants you to be with him in heaven forever! WOW! Let all of that sink in for a moment.

So, what should be our response to all of that? “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). No mere words can adequately describe the depth of gratitude that should continually flow from my heart because of who God is and what he has done for me. God seeks those who will worship him in spirit and in truth. The primary purpose for my existence is to worship and glorify God, to offer him the sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. Everything else in my life is secondary to that primary purpose. Let’s spend 2018 exploring together how each of us individually, and how all of us collectively as the church, can best fulfill this purpose by offering our very best worship to God, and by living our lives in such a way that others will see our good works and glorify God.
